As the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the Arc Michigan needs your support and commitment more than ever. We are all living through an unprecedented event, with new public policy challenges emerging almost daily. Over the past 18 months, the Arc Michigan has had to refocus our day-to-day efforts to address:
- the threat of health care rationing
- access to COVID-19 testing
- access to telehealth services
- vaccine prioritization and access
- the ever-worsening direct care worker shortage
- major disruptions in the education system
And now, we are also facing a renewed attempt in the Michigan legislature to privatize our state’s public behavioral health care system. Although the existing Community Mental Health system is far from perfect, privatization would put profits ahead of what is in the best interest of the more than 300,000 Michiganders with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or mental health disabilities who rely on the critical supports and services the current system provides. Privatization would mean less person-centeredness, less choice, and greatly reduced financial transparency.
Please join us in fighting these battles by engaging with your state and federal representatives to advocate with and on behalf of people with disabilities, and by offering your generous financial support to the Arc Michigan.
